Toning down wizards

Whether you use a dagger or a quarterstaff is not really going to make a great difference. One weapon does an average of 2.5 damage per hit, the other 3.5. And the dagger is 1) finessable, 2) throwable, 3) concealable, 4) the best simple weapon in the game (should be martial if you look at the stats). So "dagger-only" is not toning down...that's just adding campaign specific features...
 


I'm just curious as to why you'd want to. They can't wear armor, they can't cast nearly as many spells as a sorcerer, their weapon situation is (already) limited at best, they have to spend thousands of GP and XP on their spells and magic items... I could go on, but I'm tired and my brain hurts tonight.

If what you're after is flavor, then it's fine. However, I'm curious how one goes about enforcing this.

Player: Meril the Magnificent picks up the quarterstaff carried by the fallen enemy rogue.

DM: He can't do that.

Player: Huh? What do you mean "can't"? It's a stick. He picks it up.

DM: He can't.

Well I do like to torture players.:p
 

There's simpler, and more reasonable ways to do that.

"Ok, as your first level characters are walking through down, they get smashed by a fire giant. Roll new characters."
 

Wizards require alot of gold investment, EXP baggage, and thought processing. If anything you should worry about nerfing the druid and cleric.

Druids should not have wildshape. (And even without it they're still too strong but ohwell..)
Clerics should only have acess to thier domain spells but have all the domains of thier diety. (Which promotes actual GOD worship..)

Also I think rangers/paladins should not have any spells and instead get bonus feats, why does everybody and thier mother get to cast fricking spells?
