Too many DM's! [stop the insanity]

Does anyone else game in this situation?

Not I.

It would be nice if someone else would run a game of D&D I could play. Some players in my extended group run, but run games I have no interest in (Shadowrun, WoD) or have pretty much have decided if you want to play D&D, I am the man to go to and don't have much faith in themselves.

It would be nice to play D&D once in a while.

Currently only 1 other DM in our group. No conflicts, though. He does Star Wars and (occasionally) Call of Cthulu while I concentrate on D&D.

Our group used to have 1 other DM, too. He did an alternate D&D campaign as well as Alternity. Again, No real conflicts. I am blessed with a stable group...(knocks on wood).

I get the feeling that one of my gamers could run a d20 modern campaign, but we don't have it (yet). Another one of my players would be able to do a brilliant OE campaign if only he would get off his lazy ass and TURN UP. Another is the biggest Monty Haul DM you've ever seen (4 +15 vorpal swords? 2 rings of free wishes? for EACH character? At frickin FIRST LEVEL?).

Sadly, I'm the only one who can DM well enough for it to be fun. When we get d20 modern, that might change.

Just on a lark, edit your first post, so that you can change the subject/title line, and add [New Orleans] to it. Let's see how many folks from your area pop in and make themselves known... ;)

Hehe. No I am happy with my group, and If I DMed all the time I would complain the other way around most likely :) But I noticed that you are from my home town and when I am out of the military I will be finishing my Degree at UIC :D Woohoo.

The reason that I started this thread is becasue I have been gaming for a while and have never run across this situation and I was just curious if it was me or is this a rarer situation.

Be sure to keep track of the Chicago Gamedays that many people on these boards participate in. When you return, hopefully you can join us for the fun! :)

Also, here's a Yahoo group for a gaming club that runs at UIC, I believe. You may want to join the Yahoo group and let them see if they are people you'll want to hook up with when you go there-

I must admit I have not heard of this problem before. Our group has 7 members. Of these two enjoy being DM, I am one of the two. So far this has worked out very well.

Good luck finding the perfect balance in your group.

That, and do you have any Idea how hard it is to find a group in New Orleans, LA?

You might want to head out to BSI Comics in Metairie (across the street from Lakeside Mall on Severn). There's often D&D people there on Sundays (usually playing Living Greyhawk). Also there's a store called Gamer's Matrix (it's either in Metairie or Kenner I can't remember) that may have some people looking for a group. Also in Metairie is a store called Galactic Games. It seems they are always packed, usually with miniature gamers, and have some D&D going on. If you are looking for new players, it might be a good idea to go to one of these stores and "hang-out" to see if anyone there is someone you would be interested in gaming with. That's pretty much how our group(s) got together. I've also been told that a new game store just opened up on the West Bank. I don't know what it's called or where exactly it is, but if you are interested I could try and find out.

I find myself in Galactic Games all the time. They have a lot of nice mini's and have alot of mini games going on. Thanks for the other ideas. I live off Magazine street uptown, so there is nothing really close to me, so I usually have to plan my adventures to the hobby shops. Thanks for all the tips though :D

We have 4 active DMs in a group of 6 players. A 5th would like to DM but he realizes that we have enough trouble with 4 DMs. Up until last week, we had 4 individual campaign running 4 weeks at a time and then switching to the next DM's campaign. Thus everyone had 3-4 characters and we were constantly asking the wrong person to pick a lock (No I'm the thief in the other game, not this one). We are now switching to a story based switch out and three of us are consolidating worlds so that there will be just 6 PCs (one of whom is always an DM NPC). And the 4th DM will have the only independent game. This we hope will cut down on character confusion. And we prefer episodic games anyway. At some point these character will jump to epic levels and then I think I'll take over the DMing and the other three DMs will run the consolidated game. Should work well.
