Too Many Games, Too Little Time

I'm running 5e exclusively right now and we're really liking it. I'm not complaining. What I'm complaining about is how many awesome game systems are out there that i'll never get a chance to play. Long ago I used to buy stuff that just LOOKED awesome, and that resulted in a bookshelf full of expensive color hardbacks like Ptolus that were only opened once or twice. And that was YEARS ago. Actual new systems like Fantasy Age and Fantasy Flight's Zombie Apocalypse or the newest iteration of Mutants and Masterminds or even Call of Cthulhu 7th edition - I just will never get a chance to run them. And I WANT to. But there's just not enough time to keep anything other than ONE ongoing story going in our group. I could maybe conceivably start a second gaming group, somehow, but that would be a serious drain on my time and resources as well. So I guess ultimately I'm not really complaining, i'm GLAD we have these options, I'm just sorry there aren't three of me to be able to enjoy them all at once :)

It is a problem.

I could probably manage more games per month than I do... if I were playing. Running more than my one bi-weekly and one monthly game would start getting challenging.

I might look into doing our regular 2 hour weekly D&D and then try to start a new group with a new system and do that maybe bi-weekly. I really did want to check out Zombie Apocalypse, or any of the rpgs in that series, they look great.

Journey straight to the apocalypse with The End of the World roleplaying line, four settings of horror and survival set amid humanity’s last days:

Zombie Apocalypse
Wrath of the Gods
Alien Invasion
Revolt of the Machines

The less time I have the more picky about the games I really want to run. These days there are very few that seem to really interest me.

Last year I swore, SWORE I wasn't going to buy any more systems. I already had more than enough to do what I wanted to do.

But then out of the blue and totally unexpectedly, one of my FLGS's got a hardcover copy of Night's Black Agents in stock. And I've kind of been secretly harboring a desire to try out GUMSHOE for a while now.

And that hardcover just about clinched it. Even if I never play the actual system, the artwork and the GM details in Night's Black Agents were fantastic.

So I know that's going into the gaming collection as soon as I can manage it.

But ouch, my gaming budget........soooo many things to buy.

  • Night's Black Agents
  • Star Wars Imperial Assault Board Game
  • Star Wars Force and Destiny
  • East Texas University
  • Deadlands Noir
  • The One Ring Player's Companion
  • Shaintair Legends Arise and Legends Unleashed

To say nothing of picking up the occasional Lord of the Rings Living Card Game expansion, finishing off my Dominion collection with the three expansions I don't have already, picking up a copy of the Castles of Burgundy and Istanbul board games......

Oh, and it's just about time to upgrade the CPU on my main gaming PC.........

Don't get me started.

I have maybe 10-12 years of solid board wargame play backed up and I dread to think how much on my PC... and yet, I still want Fallout 4 and the reprint of Pacific War...

I have much more time to game since I gave up sleeping and the banana goat paints my invisible iguanas every ice cream pony.
