THAC0. Ugh. I hate THAC0.
THACO was a brilliant improvement over 1st Ed. As awful as it was, at least you had one number to remember, not twenty.

And then there was original D&D, in which your running speed was six feet per five seconds. Get up from the computer right now and try running six feet in five seconds. It's a lot of fun to imagine chase scenes :).

Never played 1e. You're making me feel glad about that. :) Actually, didn't get into RPGs at all until AD&D 2e.

My officemates just looked at me funny. Think I just damaged my career. You really should put disclaimers or warnings on suggestions like this.

You have no idea. As bad as 3rd ed still is...I don't even want to know what 1st/OD&D was like.
I actually liked 1e more than 2e. I don't really have a good reason for that, it didn't have smoother game play or anything like that. I suppose it was because it was 1e and it was supposed to be arcane and byzantine, so the wonkiness really added to the "Hey this is 1e!" experience whereas in 2e I just thought, "Man this game is wonky." I guess I was always disappointed in 2e because I wanted it to make sense and I never felt that disappointment in 1e because I never expected it to make any sense at all. I'm not even that wild about 3e, I'm just grateful its not 2e.

YOu didn't tell me you were in an office! You should have told them (once they had finished their action of looking at you), "I'm thinking outside the box!" It should have taken you one minute to finish the phrase. Talk about promotion material!

... Against psions the globes are even better.

Unless of course, the psion heightens the power. For example: Demoralize is a first level power, costs 1 point. It can be pumped up to some number like 13, the cost of a 7th level power. For every 2 power points spent its range and radius increase 5 ft and its save DC increases by 1. This sounds like a built in heighten and therefore, would get through the globe of invulnerability.

No, because it's still a 1st level power for all purposes. Psions have serious issues with globe of invulnerability.

Just because it sounds like Heighten doesn't mean it is.

I did some research (google is great) and you are right. Now my telepath/thrallherd is going to have to research a 9th level version of dominate. Right now only 14th level psion 5/Thrallherd 9, and it is really nice being able to dominate just about anything. I would hate to run into something with globe of invulnerability.

Well, it just seems like if Globes of Invulnerability were that easy to get through, they'd really have to call them something else.
