Top 10 d20 Adventures?

Knightfall

World of Kulan DM
Ok, I just finished reading the article about the 30 Greatest D&D Adventures of All Time, and I'm wondering what everyone's opinions are on which d20 Adventures would make a top 10 list. Why 10? Because 5 seems like too few and 20 good d20 adventures might be hard to come up with.

Also, should we elect some of the better known "members" of EN World to help make such a list, like they did with the Dungeon #116 article?

I think the main stipulations are that the adventure must be d20 and OGL only, not from a WotC liscensed campaign such as Dragonlance or Ravenloft, and should fall under the category of "fantasy-style modules".

Me, personally, I would trust the opinion of the EN World.

Opinions? Concerns? Threats?

Cheers!

The 2004 ENnie-nominated "World of Whitethorn 1B: The Village of Oester" is the #2 adventure on the EN World rankings and "World of Whitethorn 1A: The Hamlet of Thumble" is #5. They've both received nearly universal praise from reviewers and readers alike. So I'd have to nominate those two, especially since I wrote them.

i have them both and they were worth the money i spent.

i'd also include although i know it is not for everyone. The Banewarrens by Monte Cook.

of the ones released by WotC. Forge of Fury is probably the best of the 8 in that series.

RttToEE is okay. but probably not worth a top 10. same with CotSQ.

Of Sound Mind should be high on the list.
so too should The Whispering Woodwind by CMG
There are some good ones from Necromancer and TrollLords too that should vie for top billing

Nemoren's Vault from Fiery Dragon is very good.

and the Coin trilogy from Kenzer's Kalamar adventures.

AEG, FFG, FFE, and others also have some shining moments.

edit: i thot i typed Goodman games on here but i see if didn't. so add them to the list of possibles.

Erik actually asked me to submit a list of d20 adventures for a sidebar for the article, but that was at the peak of the ENnies judging so I had to bow out.

But if I did make such a list, it would include these titles:

The Ghost Machine (from To Stand on Hallowed Ground)
Rappan Athuk
Beyond All Reason
Of Sound Mind
If Thoughts Could Kill
The Banewarrens
Song of Storms

and I'd scrounge a few more up.

This would really depend on the scope of the reader. Some don't read anyting but Necromancer or Malhavoc books and others (most) only read WoTC material.

Another problem is that games are very much linked to how they played in many people's mind. For example, I owned both Demon God's Fane and If Thoughts Could Kill, but didn't have a very memorable game with the latter, despite it being hailed in several circles as a better adventure.

I think that Atlas and Fiery Dragon, esepcailly at the start, had a lot of great adventures with some great ideas in them. Fiery Dragon did a nice job of incorporating world background into their adventurers that was easy to use or drop as desired. The start of NeMoren's Valut for instance, is an excellent way to gather a group of adventurers together and the backstory works well on many levels.

Thats it? Only 5 people have opinions on what the top d20 adventures are? Come on, I know there are others out there that can contribute to this list. I'm really interested to see what others have to say.

Teflon Billy & Crothian, I know you guys have read a lot of adventures, what do you guys think are the best?

Fine, but it's just going to bring more controversy.

Of Sound Mind
Three Days to Kill
Standing Stone
The Village of Oester
The Whispering Woodwind

And White Plume Mountain!! :D

My top 5 (will vary!):

1) Lost City of Barakus
2) Vault of Larin Karr
3) Tomb of Abysthor
4) Rappan Athuk
5) Banewarrens

Honorable Mention:
- Grey Citadel
- Forge of Fury
- Trouble at Durbenford
- Freeport series
- RttToEE
- CotSQ

My picks

In the Belly of the Beast, Atlas Games
Demon Lord's Fane, Malhavock
Three Days to Kill, Atlas Games (has some issues, but is still good)
Akrasia, theif of time, Eden Studios
