Does anyone remember that game?

I never got a chance to play it (and only owned an adventure from it, and not the system) but I always meant to...

Was it any good?

Soviet Era spy thrillers always make me happy...

I played it in high school (I think... could have been Jr High). Anyhow, it was fun, in a high tech gadget sort of campy storyline way. Bond and the car game "Spyhunter" were popular at the time. The secret island base adventure was fun but I think I had more fun creating my character and making up his dossier than anything else.

Mechanically I can't recall how it went.

I liked the follow-up Top Secret SI better, if only because it had great sourcebook support (I'm a stupidly huge fan of the Agent 13 sourcebook).

The adventure I have (had? not sure if I still ahve it) had a big map of a submarine in it... Was that the secret base adventure?

I played it a fair bit with my friends (original version, we never had SI). For some reason we always did quests to kill Anne Beatrice. It always involved using kung-fu to get into position, shooting her, then battling out. Not exactly how the game is supposed to be played, but we were 13-14 at the time.

Played SI - but actually began playing it after I joined the army as an Intelligence Operative. (Yeah, yeah, I know...)

We actually used to play the special ops variant, because it was much more fun than real life.

I never played either, though I did own the SI box. What I was told, though, was that the original rocked, but SI sucked.

It didn't read too bad, to me, though.

I loved Top Secret games, but hated the rules. I didn't get a spy RPG where I loved the rules until the James Bond game (which I still love to this day). Espionage was pretty good, Top Secret: SI seemed like it would be OK, but James Bond was right on the money, IMO.
