TORG d20 (and any other 'lost systems' you'd like to see)

Torg is coming back.

WEG was, essentially, out of business, but the company was taken over by someone. They're releasing books for their D6 system (D6 Fantasy, D6 Adventure, and D6 Space, plus supporting products) and are planning a new edition of Torg.

http://www.westendgames.com/ is the website but it doesn't seem to have ALL the info. There's been a lot of discussion about their games on rpg.net recently... doing a search in the main forum for "WEG" will turn up threads.

(Ah, proposed covers for their d6 books are at: http://www.gamingreport.com/article.php?sid=12201)

WEG almost went bankrupt a few years ago, and was bought by a French company. There was talk of a revision of TORG which never got released (they hired one of the most prolific online fans to write it, but decided not to release it). Recently, a guy named Eric Gibson bought WEG from the French, and he's (a) going to release the TORG revision some time this summer (mostly as a PDF, but possibly a small print run as well), (b) working on a wholly new edition of TORG which apparently will have more flexibility regarding setting, as well as a more thorough revision of the rules (the other one was limited, because they wanted to keep compatibility with all the sourcebooks), and (c) releasing various d6 stuff as generic games.

Who publishes Modern Military? I think I will go spam them right away! Actually if it is a good add on I may just dig out my old T2K book and start my own conversion. I wonder who'd I'd need to talk to about the legality of posting said conversion on the net?
RPGObjects.com is the publisher. They also do Darwin's World and Blood & Space. They are very accessible via the Yahoo group. I think that a sufficiently generic revision of T2k wouldn't really even need approval, which could be good because GDW is out of business by a decade now, and I don't know how to find out who has the rights :/ The rights would be very cool though...

TOON d20 (i'm joking...)

HoL d20 (i'm really joking...) ;)

I'm wondering what happened to Torg. Is West End still in business, and, if so, do they still guard the Torg licence jealously. With the advent of d20 modern and (soon) d20 future, as well as several great resources for cross genre gaming...we might finally have a mechanical system that can do Torg right.

I know virtually no details, so don't read to much into this.

James Garr of Chainmail Bikini Games was into Torg and was looking into doing a D20 version. He did not seem very encouraged by the feedback he got when he looked into getting a license. He was working with some other Torg fans on some D20 conversions. I think that was mostly because they wanted to develop a set of rules for themselves and a little bit of James hoping that things would work out in the long run and he would get to go forward with it. I really have no idea how much was hope and how much was him being more optimistic than he let on.

I was never into Torg myself. So I only paid a little attention. The above is just my best recollection of it.

I don't think they got real far before James had to shut down CMB for personal reasons.

Far Future Enterprises http://www.farfuture.net/ Has most of the old GDW trademarks/rights, though they dont seem to mind multiple versions (Currently there is GURPS Traveller, T20, The Classic Traveller reprints, and the rumored T5)
Of course at its core Twilight 2000 is generic enough that anyone could do a similar modern military game to d20 and tweak their own setting. (perhaps some use for those Holistic modules)

Bureau 13.

This setting was so much fun, (Who remebers J.P. Withers?) but the system was so unwieldy! One round of combat could take up to 30 minutes if you used all of the rules available.

I heard there was a d20 version planned but it apparently has been scrapped as I can't find a single mention of it on Tri Tac's website. If Bureau 13 d20 was released, I would probably break down and buy d20 Modern. Until then, I don't have a reason to.
