Touch Attacks / Damage Reduction

Errm. Just noticed something that doesn't quite make sense to me.

It seems that Touch Attacks are allowed to ignore Damage Reduction, and I'm just curious as to why.

Damage reduction does not negate touch attacks, energy damage dealt along with an attack, or energy drains.

I'm just curious as to why?

I would assume because touch attacks are more often than not spell damage. DR doesn't help against spell damage.

the touch attack no cause damage itself the spell does

Well, can you think of any examples of a Touch attack that isn't from a spell?

Which are probably either force or energy damage, and should not be affected by DR. Spell-like abilities by another name.

The Master Thrower PrC (from Complete Warrior) using the Weak Spot special ability, which allows the use of the chosen ranged weapon as a ranged touch attack.

Both of which specifically say that they 'overcome damage reduction of any type' anyway.
