Touch spells with familiar

Lazybones

All this discussion about the new Mystic Thaumaturge (or whatever it's called) PrC got me thinking about something.

Can a multiclassed Wiz/Clr use his familiar to conduct divine touch spells? I had this weird mental flash of a Wiz/Clr/MT using his toad familiar to cast harm, and then hurl the toad at a foe. Would all you need is to make contact (i.e. score a ranged touch hit) to inflict the spell? The toad would have a lot of hit points, so I'm not worried about it getting crushed (though it might find the experience uncomfortable).

Maybe you could put the familiar in a lacrosse staff or something similar, get some real velocity going...

The short answer: yes.

The long answer: absolutely; the PHB passage on familiars doesn't limit familiar delivery of touch spells to ARCANE spells.

Or touch-range Psionic power.

Familiars can also SHARE any spellor power (sharing a Heal you cats on yourself, can be very veyr useful ... n'est-ce pas?).

Usually you would not toss the frog, but have a flying familiar or poly it into something with reach.

The share ability is the most intriguing to me, if you want some crazy stacking. There are some cute loopholes associated with share spells. Think about all those caster only spells and consider how they might work on a familiar (or paladin warhorse).

Can you imagine the fun you would have with a Polymorphed Divine Powered Tensor Transformed familiar delivering your touch attacks?

Non.

According to the (stupid stupid stupid!) "clarified" rules for Share Spell in Tome and Blood, because "the master and the familiar have separate hit point totals", Share Spell works slightly differently for spells that cure hit points.

Basically, you choose one to apply the spell to, and any "excess" points spill over onto the other.

If you're down 6 points, and your familiar is down 5 points, you might choose to cast a Cure Light Wounds on yourself, Sharing with your familiar. If you cure <= 6 points, the familiar gets nothing. If you cure 8 points, you get 6 and the familiar gets 2. If you cure >= 11 points, you're both back up to max.

With a Heal spell, there's never any "excess" points, so it will only affect one of you.

Stupid, stupid, stupid rule.

How about this one, though - get your Dire Lion Paladin's Mount an Animated Shield, and Share your Divine Might and Divine Shield feats with it...
