Touch Spells

Death Machine

First Post
I was just reading the combat section again (always puts me to sleep) and noticed the line about being able to use a touch spell on up to six people in one round. What would be an example of such a spell where this would be useful? I'm guessing I can't cast something like Bull's Strength -once- and boost up six in one round...

...or can I :)

No, only those spells that, in their descriptions, have a target that may be more than one friendly creature, like Water Breathing.

Chill Touch allows for multiple opponents to be touched with the one spell. Usually your allies would not want the results of this, but it is one spell I know of that lasts for more than one attack.

Mass Resist Elements might be another example. It appears to be a touch spell, although that is pretty strange. It lists multiple targets within a limited range, but range is left blank which means it is inherited from Resist Elements. Resist Elements inherits from Endure Elements, which is range touch. I think someone may have goofed here.

I can't find any other examples at the moment, but I'm sure someone will.

A paladin's Lay On Hands could be used on more than one person in a round.

Really? That would be really cool if that were true, but I didn't think that's how LoH worked. Been a long time since I really looked at LoH.

There's nothing in the LoH power description to prevent it, so by default the 'touch' rule applies ... a 4th level Paladin with 16 Charisma could apply 2 points of healing each to 6 allies, if all were within reach or within reach after one 5-foot step.

Good point. I'll have to remember that. <smacks self upside head> Thanks Christian! :)

Examples of spells allowing multiple targets to be touched: Chill Touch. Invisibility to Animals. Invisibility to Undead. Pass Without Trace. Protection from Spells. Status. Water Breathing. Water Walk. Wind Walk.

Mass Fly is also listed in Tome & Blood. Its target is "Two or more creatures, no two of whom can be more than 30' apart". This version doesn't look like a touch spell, though of course the version in another book may differ.
