Toys for use as minis

Meloncov

First Post
As many toys fit the scale for D&D minis and are generally cheaper than comparable figures intended for gaming, I thought it would be worthwhile to collect a list of toys usable as minis. So, post any toys that you've used, preferably with link to places to buy them.

Sorry I can't provide a link, but the DMs in my group have used fish tank decor from the local pet store as dungeon dressing. You can buy faux pillars, arches, and other crumbling masonry and it lends some great atmosphere to the game.

I have a few Dragons that I picked up from Target. Also your list will not be complete with McFarland's Dragons. At Micheal's I found a number of mini animals in what is called Toobz.

McFarlane Dragons.

This is the latest Sorcerer Clan dragon, price at Toys 'R' Us, about $12.

And my favorite from a previous series - Water Clan 3.

The Auld Grump

Heroscape

Heroscape - I think that's the name of the game. Anyway, Walmart and Target carry the game and it has a number of miniatures that are suitable for use in D&D. They also have expansion packs with more miniatures. Some could also be used for sci fi or modern games.

I also get a lot of dire animals from Michael's craft chain.

Although I don't personally collect them, there is a Dragon series from Legos or one of those companies with some pretty interesting armored dragons of various sizes.

We once used a carebear from one of those kiddie "paint your own carebear" sets as a dire bear during an encounter.. :) I can't find the picture anymore, but maybe sniffles will manage to see this thread and dig it up..

I'm always checking out the toy sections of my hobby shops, toy stores and groceries.

I've found (what would scale to D&D minis as) giant squid, octopi, and others. Dinosaurs are an easy find, as are frogs and lizards.

Hidden Kingdom toys has a variety of posable tarantulas, dragonflies, scorpions, etc.
