Toys, Gadgets and things that go "BOOM"

I love the void bomb! I always thought there had to be a way to use that as a weapon, and that works nicely.

Anyone got any comments on my Shrink-Item Gun? I'm really trying to get a guesstimate of how much force the un-Shrinking item puts out. Cause we've thought of other uses for the same effect. Use a large post, say 1' square and 6' tall, as a catapult like device. Or a bigger version of the Gun to fire spears (or Void Bombs) like a ballista! So please, comments & feedback?!

No idea on the gun, but I have a variant: Spear, with a very large spiked head. Shrink head (only), without making it clothlike. Shove into someone in normal fashion. Impact expands head, causing a 1' spiked iron ball to explode into being inside their chest cavity.

Another neat trick :

Take a big concave mirror. In the center mount a funky wire "star" on a spike, one shaft should point straight up, the others should be arranged in a *regular* pattern, and all the shafts should be of equal length. The tip of the mounting spike should be at the focal point of the mirror. Cast continual flame (or a permanent daylight) on all the pointy bits inside the mirror.

Cover the end of the mirror with a shutter.

Instant signalling device. Also great for lighthouses in the giant economy size.

Yes this board is full of weird people. I mean, we thought of Slaad farming for crying out loud! Keep up the good (sadistic) work guys. If there's some type of item or concept you guys have, let me know I'll try to think of something. Oh, for the Autoram, put Enlarge on it and make it so you can enlarge and shrink it at will. Just found something for the Laser Sphere. Continual Flame, Light, and Psycholuminescence all need to be cast on an object, meaning you need to put an item in the sphere, which would destroy the light providing source. If you can get around that, use the Psionic power Control Light to increase the light levels to Blinding Intensity(when charging up at the beginning anyway). In fact, you could try doing Brilliant Blast inside the Sphere to increase damage or something(maybe extend the beam's range or it's duration till having to recharge again?). You could also try making Quintessence bombs/grenades. Damn, I keep editing this post because someone else won't. Anyway, I just remembered that Slaad farming was on the D&D Rules Forum, but it's the same people(or type of people anyway).

Want guns in a no-gunpowder campaign? Look no further than modern railguns. Since the propulsion is provided entirely by electromagnets, that's easily replicated by magic and lodestone. :) And a telekinetic shell loading mechanism give it full-auto capabilityt too. :D

The Continual Flame is cast on the inside of the mirrored sphere.

Another idea: Use Shrink Item on a large quantity of Alchemist's Fire to make it small and clothlike. Make a net from the cloth. Throw it over someone, then speak the command word.

20d6 damage anyone? (total immersion)

*Imagines the explosion when a Staff of Power is used in whatisitgoodfor's example*OUCH! :D

Came up with something. What about the Druid Spell Fire Seeds? Put some explosive acorns in a tanglefoot bag for some extra kick. :D

Came up with another Druid thing. Transmute Metal to Wood then use Wood Shape to change your enemies weapons/armor into big spikes. :D

Here's something else. Put a bunch of symbols on a bolt or such. Good ones would be Pain, Stunning, Fear, and Hopelessness. :D

Videophone networks -

I know it was possible in 2e, and I don't remember the exact spell (I think it was Magic Mirror), and it may not have made the transition to 3e.

But basically, the spell allowed you to set-up a real-time, two-way, video-audio connection - provided that the target (subject, place, or mirror) was uniquely identifiable. A high-level spell, it wasn't suitable for the masses, but great for those times when you need to send a message really quick. And with a judicious use of permanent...

The only drawback was that the mirror was always "on", and didn't end up with a "ringer". But both are relatively easily solved - by a cloth and magic mouth.

Steam engines...
can easily be duplicated using a small fire elemental; strangely enough, probably one of the best choices is an Elemental [Fire] Green Slime. Combine this with a Decanter of Endless Water, and you have an eco-friendly mode of transportation.

Rod of Heat Metal -
(it has to be a rod so anyone can use it) Apply to metal tub - hot bath in under a minute. Apply to metal coil - insta-hot plate.

Cloudkill is a great vermin killer - heavier than air poison; it may or may not harm crops though, so check with the GM before using it during the growing season.

DBF's are really great if you can combine them with missile weapons - catapults with DBF scatter-shot, arrows with DBF heads, etc.

Wands of Mount could be rather key to a good messenger service.

My DM pointed this out to me, your character probably wouldn't know all this stuff necesary to make the things. You's probably need max ranks in Profession(Engineering) and Knowledge(Arcana) and maybe Knowledge(the Planes).
