Well, these are Amazon numbers only (by proxy)... so there's a limitation in the data.

So far the data seem to agree with the ICV stuffs.

An important note...the lower the rank, the BETTER (like golf).

Number 1 rank is the best seller on Amazon.

EDIT:
My interpetation (and this is, of course, only my interpretation) is that, for the books sampled, pathfiner and D&D are about equal.

It's particulary apparent with the monster manuals, but also with the phb (when you add the 4e gift pack to the 4e phb...most ppl buying that are buying it for the phb and the bonus items...pathfinder only SEEMS to beat it).

In the end, I think that this data (for what it is worth) says that 4e and pathfinder are relatively on par.

But I'll admit that that's only my interpretation of the data.

My interpretation on the nos. is more on the start-ups. The early data seems to show lots more new players for D&D, i.e. higher: compendium, gift, phb combination?

With the data presented, I'll give my thoughts:

This data again seems to agree with the latest ICv2 data.
http://www.enworld.org/forum/news/313557-icv2s-top-5-rpgs-summer-2011-pathfinder-again.html

That's true both in terms of rankings, and in terms of "games had hot summer" here: ICv2 - Games Had Hot Summer

The most notable change in the books I'm tracking is the huge improvement in sales of the pathfinder beginner box. I had been worried about it after the last round of sales tracking.

Looks like both games are strong.

I've added the other three games from ICv2 to track today. Note that these are just their core books, not the entire franchise, and as I've stated, they're the current rankings, not the month's average.

QUESTION: Would it be helpful/or is it necessary if I color coded prodcuts by system?

I think you should consider the release date as a factor in these rankings. My observations suggest that very few people pre-purchase a book on Amazon. When the book is not yet out, or if a hiccup in distribution has it unavailable on Amazon, the rank tends to sink like a rock.

One of the reasons the Beginner Box has had an uptick recently (besides the fact that is is an awesome product, of course) is that we are approaching its Amazon.com release date. Once the box is out, it will rank much better for a while, and when the initial buzz dies off it will probably settle in lower than it was when it came out.

So newer products are going to be more volatile around their date of release when observed by the methods you are using.

I find it very interesting how very well the 3.5 PHB continues to sell. It is right up there with both 4e and Pathfinder.

Maybe WotC should reprint 3.5 as well as keeping 4e in print. :hmm:

The Auld Grump, a fairly major change in the way my opinion was running.
