The dead dragon looked alright, but the live one was not shown enough to tell the quality of the effects.

It looks like the balista bolt [1:10] was launched with far too little power. From the angle of the camera, the bolt seems to be dropping as soon as it leaves the balista.

Right now I'm worried this will be as Gab-happy as Reign of Fire.

Yupe, the bolt was droppin fast, just after launch.

I really wish we'd get a truly great dragon movie one of these days. I've had it with these low budget, half-assed crapfests.

Peter Jackson needs to get a move on with the Temeraire miniseries.

Or, y'know, The Hobbit.

Well, sure, that would be ideal. But there's nothing he can do there until the whole MGM clusterf*ck gets sorted out. He might as well turn his attention to projects he can work on.

And as an aside on dragons: I wish WotC would partner with a really good animation studio and start cranking out animated features of their better novels, or even altogether original storylines. And, while I'm making fantastical wishes, I wish they'd find the conviction to actually invest in the projects, to treat their own property with some respect and dignity and get someone in there for quality control, because that Dragons of Autumn Twilight thing was just horrendous.
