Pretty cheesy...

Okay, I've never read this book......

....I know, I know...its like someone saying they never read LotR or something. But I never got around to doing it. So, anyways....for those of you who have read it, did it have this tone to it? :)

Ha ha ha, did the detective in the novel jump off his motorcycle and draw two pistols while in mid-air?

Of course I'll go see it, I almost go see everything.

I, Robot is actualy a collection of nine short stories totaling a little over 200 pages. The stories basicly look at the development of robots on earth and how they interact with humans while following the three laws of robotics. There is some connections between short stories and Asimov did write some connecting sequences for the book.

I am not sure yet what to think of the movie as I need more info. Asimov gennerally writes his books to be intelectual excercises rather than action packed so I am somewhat concearned about the action empasis of the trailer. I love Asimov and hope the movie is really a more direct interpretration ala LotR and not a hijacking of the title to throw on a sci-fi action movie.

Saw the trailer, looks okay I guess, but other than the title I'm not sure what this movie has to do with the book. I was hoping for something better than another action flick.

The only thing I didn't like about the trailer was Will Smith. But Alex Proyas (directed The Crow and Dark City) is THE MAN so I will be seeing this one opening night.

Judging only by the trailer?...

...It's not even in the same ballpark.

BTW why does Will Smith have to say "Oh Hell No!" in EVERY movie?!

Nope, Asimov's robot stories are mostly about ideas and sometimes characters, rather than non-stop action. I'd imagine this movie will have about the same relationship to Asimov's work as "Total Recall" did to Philip K. Dick's. It might turn out to be quite a good movie, but it's unlikely to be a real faithful adaptation.

From what little I know about the movie, I think they're actually drawing the characters and maybe some plot from Asimov's robot novels (featuring a future setting with an NYC cop and his robot partner) rather than the I, Robot collection of short stories.

From that trailer it looks like the name is about all that is in common.

I get a feeling that this one will be rather like Starship Troopers in having about nothing to do with the book.

I'm going to need plenty of persuasion that the trailer is not indicative before I even consider seeing the movie.
