The entire theater groaned at this last night, and my first thought was "worst movie ever".....

Agreed.

But is it my imagination, or did the aquatic critter they were fighting not look a lot like a Tarrasque?

Giant monster movies were an important part of my childhood. To have one made today, by a talented director operating with a budget and good cast is a (minor) dream come true.

Now if only Wes Anderson would start making droll, highly-stylized science fiction films...
