[Trailer] S. Darko

Ah, that makes sense, Crothian. It's been a while since I've seen it, too. Starting to come back to me.

I may need to pop that into the DVD player and watch it again... as long as I don't end up freaking out over the rabbit for another week. :p

It is an odd movie to have a sequal to. I can only think of the Butterfly Effect for a similar movie that got a sequal and that one wasn't that good. I guess it will have to be a sequal in concept then anything else.

[sblock] No, the world was going to end if he lived, so he went back in time and made sure he died when he was supposed to. I think that's how it was, it has certainly been a while since I saw it.[/sblock]

Actually, the world wasn't going to end; HIS world was going to end, because the countdown was to his girlfriend's death. Once he realized he was in a divergent time loop, he decided to get crushed by the airplane engine so that the loop would merge back to the main timeline and she would live.

That upcoming sequel wasn't written or made by the original writer/director (Richard Kelly), and seems to have only taken a few memorable bits and stretched them out to do a standard horror movie. The only good point I can see is that they used the same actress to play the younger sister (Daveigh Chase).

The original was frickin' terrible.
I think the best way to appreciate this movie is to watch it a second time shortly after the first. Once you know where the story is headed, you can focus on all the clues leading up to the climax and appreciate how beautifully constructed it is rather than be disoriented by the red herrings.

I've heard people say this before. Is it based off of something besides the movie because nothing in the movie I can see indicates a separate world.

Huh? You mean like the one where he's not in his room when the jet engine crashes through it and the one where he is? (Though, separate timeline would be more accurate.)

The movie is like a dark, backwards version of "It's a Wonderful Life", with more of a sci-fi slant. In Darko, he gets to see the tragedy that would happen if he lives, as opposed to George Bailey seeing what would happen if he dies.

It's also the premise of the movie "Jacob's Ladder", though the angel in it is more subtle (and can do back adjustments.)

And FWIW, Donnie Darko is one of my 10 favorite movies.

Original movie was fantastic. The director/writer's cut... not so much. It's one of those instances where a great movie comes from a really, really stupid idea.

The fact that the original guy is not associated with the sequel is a plus in my book.
