Having seen it, I don't think it was lame. I thought it was effective, and well written and acted.

The ending was effective in an 'Art film' manner though much less in an entertaining manner. Heck, I think the movie could have been ended twice before that for more entertainment value. As I went for the creatures, I was still very satified with the movie, though.

Had he gotten out of the SUV and stumbled through the mist for even an implied 15 or 20 minutes, it would have been much easier to swallow.

Well, that may depend on what you call "entertainment". I found the ending to have solid emotional impact. But those emotions weren't positive. Was I "entertained"?
