Transdimensional Summon?

Abstraction

First Post
A question in another thread got me thinking. Can you make Summon Monster spells Transdimensional with the Transdimensional Spell Feat. This could be very useful, to summon dire wolves to attack ghosts, etc.

Nice try!

The feat allow you to target ethereal (etc) creatures.

"Summon" spells don't target other creatures.

IIRC, Transdimensional Spell doesn't say anything about Targeting. If it did, it wouldn't work on Fireball.

What it says is that it allows the modified spell to affect creatures on coterminus planes and/or extradimensional spaces within the spells area.

But either way, as written the spell doesn't work with Summon spells. (although it's probably not broken to allow it to work)

You can cast spells that affect targets lurking in coexistent planes and extradimensional spaces whose entrances fall within the spell's area.

You must be able to perceive a creature to target it with a transdimensional spell, but you do not need to perceive a creature to catch it in the area of a burst, cone, emanation, or spread.

Target or Area. ;)

I don't see this anywhere in the feat description.

A summon monster creates an effect, and according to the wording of Transdimensional Spell, it seems that that effect can affect targets lurking in coexistent planes.

Of course, you are still stuck with the problem of getting your summoned critter to perceive the bad guys in order to attack them, but I think this feat/spell combo should work.
