Traps and Hazards

I'm not sure if this is the right spot to ask this, but couldn't find a better fit.

In the DMG there are guidelines for creating and altering monsters, but I couldn't find any for traps and hazards. The traps seem to do a bit more damage than monsters of their level and the exposed parts (crossbow turrets, for example) have a bit less defense than creatures of equal level as well.

Have I just missed the guidelines? Will they appear on DI or in a later book? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jon

One of the playtest reviewers said that there was an excellent section on creating traps in the beta DMG and he was disappointed it didn't make the final cut. I'll bet dollars to donuts we'll see it in DMG2 next year.

I am actually hoping that they instead decided to pull it for space and will include it as a DDI article.

This isn't necessarily an "instead" — I assume many DDI articles are destined for future books.

This is likely very true. Especially considering that many people will not subscribe to DDI but the rules will still likely see light of day for other gamers. The way I currently see it is that the DDI content will basically be "Early Access" to rules and materials that will be "General Release" in he future. The Warforged is a good example of this.

I'm eager for some fan trap compilations... or even a whole article of good length in Dungeon jam packed with more traps/hazards than are in the DMG. I don't mind them focusing more on these things in DMGII, but I'm not super excited if they plan to release them as extra book supplements in the next year. I can see that as a good year-three product, though.
