The freedom of movement ability that this domain grants says that the "effect occurs automatically as soon as it applies".

This doesn't mean that it basically activates when the situation calls for it does it? You still have to spend a standard action to activate the supernatural ability right?

For example, round one, web is cast before the cleric's turn. It can affect him unless he can activate his freedom of movement on his turn, right? It doesn't automatically activate does it?

I was also wondering, does a person with freedom of movement escape a net attack? What if they are already caught in a net and it's pulled tight, can they automatically get out just by casting that spell? I would say no because it's more like they are encased rather than entangled.

No, at least not the way we have been playing it. Any round that the cleric wants it active gets counted against his rounds per day. This means that you have to really throw black tentacles and grapple attacks, etc. against said cleric early and often to eventually be able to pin him down. I have not yet been able to do it with my party's cleric; I have to settle for imploding him and cracking his skull with warhammers, etc.

I am curious to see if anyone out there requires him to burn a standard action to activate the ability.

Automatically basically means "on it's own" in most contexts. Someone casts Web on you, and you have time on it remaining, you grin, charge out, and smack him.

The domain ability, on the other hand, only applies to magical effects - a mundane net, or even a mundane grapple, is unaffected (it does apply to magical grapples, such as from a Telekenesis spell, however).

As for the spell - I'd let it bypass the net.

Ah ok, gotcha. So the cleric doesn't need to activate it for it to work, it just works as long as he has enough rounds left for it.

I didn't even notice that it only works vs "magical" effects, good to know. I just hope I remember that in the future :p
