Traveling Spellbook?

I don't have the book in front of me but I thought the Forgotten Realms source book had information on travelling spellbooks.

I'll check when I get home if no one else does.

I think I read about them, too, but not as a different Item. You rather take a normal spellbook and use it as travel spellbook. The Big Tome with all your spells (or the collection of spellbooks) stays in your tower, you only take your travelling spellbook (s) with you: it contains the spells you use when you travel, not the ones you use in magic research, spying and scrying, and item creation. Or it is just another set of your spellbooks, protected (resistance to fire, waterproof, such things), which won't bereave you of all your spells when they get destroyed (after all, you have another set of spellbooks at home)

Well, one nice trick for a "travelling" spellbook is for the wizard to tattoo his spellbook onto his own body. The downside of this is that his travelling spell selection becomes as fixed and rigid as an original 3E sorceror, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than spell mastery, and short of being skinned, there's no way a wizard can possibly lose THAT spellbook.

Now where did I put that Fireball spell?

a good way to fix your problem is shrink item and buy permanacy from someone (if you're low level)
viola: a big spell-book that can shrink down to paper-back size for easy storage and carrying and then enlarge so you can read it.

It's really from AD&D 1st Ed. Unearthed Arcana, if you don't count a copy-and-paste operation...

Right, I never liked adventuring wizards for that. I always found it ackward to have a wizard in the middle of a dungeon spending an hour or more ( If I remember correctly in 1st ed it could take much more than an hour to study the spell) studying the spell. Back then in my group nobody was playing wizard because those books were always a problem to carry around ( and I guess that when you are 10-15 years old you hate having to go through the first 5 level before getting that fireball).

To me the sorcerer make much more sense as an adventurer.

Just my opinion
