Also found at aquarium stores is some great terrain at a reasonable price. I have picked up Mayan styled temples, Asian pagodas, and Greek columns. You can also use the plastic plants if you do an underwater adventure.

Oh, and yes indeed the candy was handled by the DM (M&Ms and I think they may have been "Runts", not Jelly Beans. I never got a chance to eat one). The Con DM knew that some people would be grossed out about snacking on handled food and brought extras in a bowl for the victorious. I want to say the guys name was James Mordan... It was back in the good ole' Milwaukee days.

Fly, levitate, enlarge= pizza !

You know those three legged little white things that come in some pizza boxes? (there put in the center to hold it together or something)
Put your miniature on top of one and you have a levitated character (you can even fly overtop of other miniatures with this).
It's also about the size of a large creature so it can work for that too.

I can't take credit for this idea, someone else mentioned it on the boards mentioned it a few years ago.

Hmmm, to bad. Still see them occaisionally here in Ontario, though they seem to be used less these days.

Here's a thought thats maybe a little radical (for this thread). Don't use a battlemat or miniatures. Be more freeform. It 'looks' cooler in your head. And it doesn't bog things down in I take a five-foot step excetera.
if that's to extreme just take some change or something to represent whose in melee, and how many enemies there are etc.
If your concerned about spell area etc. just have the character roll a spell-craft check or something to see how many opponents he can hit, without hitting his allies. Or just make a ruling.

I've done this with both 1e AD&D and Microlite20 . And I think I could do it with 3.5 pretty easily. Makes combat a lot faster. Focus your time on vivid descriptions, not the minuta of position.

The bottle ring idea is a great one. We've used it for about three sessions now and they work very well.

What use are bottle rings for gaming? I've seen this mentioned several times in a very positive manner by people, but I'm trying to visualize how they would be used and I'm drawing a blank.
