It is a little silly, but pretty cool with ideas. The idea that computer games were like gladitorial arenas for the programs was funky.

I'd be tempted to say he came in as a very high level (he's one of the best video gamers in the world) half-celestial.
The scene where he resurrects Ram in the Recognizer (spell like ability) could bear this out. Or was that a heal spell?
Then why did Ram die later anyway?
