Tron sequel... could it work today?

does anyone remember the old 80's flick 'tron'? it was a pretty darn good movie and with the advent of the game 'tron 2.0' i am wondering if Disney is considering a sequel.

I don't thing a sequel would work very well. In the original, the plot and characterization were pretty lackluster. What made it interesting were the innovative visual effects. High-end effects are commonplace today, so there's little to be gained by linking a new movie to the original.

Actually, with a good story, considering the state of SFX today, this could be a great movie. Of course, it could end up as a huge, festering, steaming pile of sh . . . stuff, but that's pretty much a possibility with any movie.

And Tron was a very cool part of my younger days, I'd love to see a good sequel.

I was under the impression that they had been fact working on a sequel, but that poor sales of the PC-Game helped to cause the cancellation of the project.
