I'm a big fan of the marble look. Among my friends, I'm the guy who sorts through his 'pretty dice' looking for the right ones. Most everyone else resorts to what's close at hand, or their 'lucky dice'. I'd advocate the cool variety of black and white dice I picked up from origins this year, but I can't recall which company. Doesn't look like the Chessex ones, they're more rounded at the edges.

I went retro last year and ordered some good old Chessex dice from Advancing Hordes. Didn't have any problems getting them through the border.

anyone ever get thouse pound of duice? how are they? I've always considered getting them or the big pitcher full that is offered at the cons.

I really like the old school Chessex single color dice, they're much easier to read, and just have more "character" than the marbled or oddly colored Crystal Caste ones. Of all my dice, the set that came with the 2nd Edition Boxed Set (my first foray into the game) still seem to roll the best, and just feel better in my hand.

All of this, of course, means very little for me now, since I'm playing in an IRC game that uses this dicebot. It's fairly nice, easy to do complex/multiple rolls, send private rolls, etc, and uses HotBits for random seeds (random numbers based off of the decay of nuclear material). I'd say it's about as random as you can get, since the true sign of real random numbers is the occasional appearance of seemingly non-random strings of numbers. As in, I went one session where I rolled a good 10 or so times without getting a result above 10, and rolled something in the range of 7 natural 1's (which suck in combination with critical miss tables). While I can't say I'm happy with those results, my character survived, and it's a helluva story to tell.

Haven't been exposed to the Gamescience dice. Most all I see around here are the Chessex. Now, those new Chessex sets I keep seeing are damned nifty, but I can't justify $22.50 for a set of dice. But on the other hand, I guess they'd see more use than my burgeoning collection of D20 books. Can't imagine using them unless I write my own campaign. Fat chance of that happening anytime soon.

Most of mine are Chessex.... Not sure that is a real preference or not, they just seem to be the booth I end up at during conventions when I am looking to buy a new set of dice....

I buy a pound every six months or so. I have a bunch and I probably lose a ton. I used to run a fair amount of games at conventions and people take dice from those games all the time. Sometimes on purpose, most of the time by accident. I had one fellow try to return some 12-siders three years later.

I separate the ugly ones and take them to school and give them away free to the guys who game. A lot of times they will bring a kid in they recruited for their game and say "Hey, Coach P. this is James, he is just starting in our campaign." That's my cue to fork over a set of dice for the new guy. ;)

The dice are fairly decent quality, but you will get some ugly ones for sure.
