Tumble in a Straight Line?

My DM has decided you can only tumble in a straight line according to RAW. I don't believe this is correct, but now that I have been looking for it, I can't find this specifically anywhere. I think the fact that it is part of normal movement is strongly indicative (if not conclusive), but he does not.

Does anyone know of a RAW reference to support Tumbling does not require straight line movement?

Thanks, I hope that's enough for him - an even stronger implication, but still not written out as "you can turn while tumbling" or "does not have to be in a striaght line."

I like that it mentions different kinds of tumbling, like cartwheels and flips and such.
I also like that it breaks it down into five foot squares. That is explicitly states each 5' square can be traversed as if it were 10' implies you can break it up however you like. 5' tumble, '10 walking, and then 5' tumble if you wanted, or 5' tumble, 5' tumble, 5' tumble even.

Charge and run explicitly state that you must move in a straight line. I don't see that tumble imposes that restriction, which makes it's rules look a lot like all of the other forms of movement, which do let you turn.

tumble absolutely does not have to be in a straight line.

but note the rules on jumping. i have a thri-kreen which is doing a good job maxing out his jump skill, and end turns mid-air quite often. I had to ask the dm about fly-by attack vs spring attack.... ^^
