Tumble question

It's not clear to me when tumbling if your entire move is reduced by half, or if only the squares tumbled through cost double.

For example...

A character with 30ft move speed tumbles through 1 square (5ft) as part of a single move action. Can that character only move a total of 15ft during that move action, or does the tumble use 10ft of the 30ft?

(quote from PHB) "Tumble at 1/2 speed as part of normal movement, provoking no attacks of opportunity while doing so. Failure means you provoke attacks of opportunity normally. Check separately for each opponent you move past, in the order that you pass them. Each additional enemy after the first adds a +2 to the DC"

I would say that since it tells you to "check separately" when moving around enemies that the tumble is only 1/2 speed in the squares you designate tumbled through. So I guess my answer is the 2nd part of your comment

Seconded.

Yes, double cost for the squares tumbled throught, for the others squares you are not tumbling so...
Note: you can keep your speed while tumbling but you have a penalty of -10 to your check.

Hmph, actually we ruled on it the other way in my group. But when I think about it, your way is better :)
