Day 258: The Climb The climb begins as an inclined marched, tiresome but not difficult. Searching the area as the crew progresses reveals no hidden ingress, no secret path, nothing. The gap through which Raven Elk first noticed the far steps was, horizontally, about 50 paces from his view point and vertically about 10 paces. The 50 paces seemed more like 500 with the labor needed to transverse it. Finally, at the base of where the gap is located straight above, there is only a cliff wall. Using the climbing gear, Taylar ascends first then aides the others in climbing. Standing on a smooth flat surface, obviously long past manually worked, the crew can see the mountains fall away below and far out into the eastern plains. The sight is quite amazing. Looking inward, a cut set of steps leads down into a tiny hidden vale, almost circular, of a diameter of about 100 paces. The vale is enclosed by nine definitive peaks. Each peak has been meticulously carved into a decorative facade and bored to include internal structure. This vale is most intriguing thing the crew has ever seen. It truly must be some some relic of time past. The stone work, though weathered, is still far beyond any masonry known. In addition to the nine structures, there are nine columnar spires, each topped with a different colored crystal. The spires do not rise above the peaks so they are only visible from inside the vale. The floor of the vale was obviously once a maintained and manicured garden. There is a near crystal clear pond, definite paths, and planted groves. The place where the crew is currently standing appears to be a window for viewing the eastern plain. At this point there is no obvious entrance to the vale, though paths have been made within it.
