Day 122: Parlay, Part 3 [gm]The path the party is following is a bit of a ravine and fairly narrow. It leads downward from the original path then back upward toward the cave opening. There is a small plateau area in front of the cave opening that is large enough for all the Seekers and the Mhytres. The cave opening is fairly large, being about 3 paces wide and 2 paces high. The 6 Mhytres, 3 males and 3 females, spread out upon the landing and move back to provide more room for the approaching Seekers. Sheldon does not move forward with the other men, this time. He helps lead the pack animals up onto the landing. Before they start forward, Indigo speaks quietly to Myth. The lynx then moves, unseen, off the path in a flanking direction heading for the back side of the landing. As Tor, in the lead, begins to approach the central Mhytre, he slides back a stride, a bit startle by the very large man's approach. At the same time, Feroz gives 6 cries and 6 other Myhtres of the same tribe begin to come onto the plateau from the other side of the cave.[/gm] [gm]The new arrivals spread out with the others and begin speaking with one another in quick short statements. The language sounds similar to what the party remembers of Maldrog but can not understand anything said. The Mhytres are not armed, though they are carrying iron hammers at their waists and what appears to be hammered wedges. These are obviously the tools of their mining trade, though they could serve as weapons if necessary. The central male of the second group also speaks a few unintelligible words to the Seekers. With some gesture and words on the party of the Seekers, the desire for trade is understood. The Mhytres, now totaling 6 males and 6 females, intermingle with the Seekers' burro train. They seem intrusive and touchy like small children would be. They continue to say words to the Seekers and each other. After about 2 minutes of babble and movement, one of the Mhytres takes a small carving knife and cuts the last burro free of its tether. He drops a brick of iron on the ground, laughing, as he and a female begin trying to lead the complaining burro away. The brick of iron is a far undervalue for the burro. At the other end of the train, 4 of the Mhytres have positioned themselves around Turtle and Bolo, their manner becoming antagonizing to the bear. They also seem to be saying derogatory things about Bolo. Alarm warnings scream inside the heads of all the Seekers. The animated activity seems to have bolstered the malevolent Mhytres' confidence. Centrally on the near side with Tor, Saemund, Sannit, and Vadin are located, the Mhytres suddenly stop speaking. They fully intend to take what they want.[/gm]
