TV: Supernatural and Heroes

I'd probably use GURPS for both, since it's the only thing designed to do realistic normals with a smattering of heroic characters; both M&M and HERO have a real problem representing people at the low end of the spectrum. Sam and Dean are utterly ordinary characters, Sam having maybe a 20-point psychic gift of some kind. The Heroes people would be built on slightly higher than normal points, depending on their individual powers. Peter and Sylar would be significantly higher point value than the others, though.

Supernatural is about the guys winning every week. World of Darkness core isn't much better in that regard, either.

This is my thought as well. I was thinking of d20M possibly, as, unlike "standard" horror (and what a can of worms I might have opened with that phrase), the heroes ARE supposed to fight and kill the monsters. Normally, IMO, d20 is a little too mechanic-heavy for a horror game in which the heroes are really just supposed to run for their lives when the baddie appears.

As for Heroes, I'd like to use M&M, mostly for an excuse to use the system, but I suspect it may be too four-color for that show.

I'd also have to admit that HERO would work for both, but I'm a little burnt out on the system at present.

true 20 for either (or just about anything else).

Other then that i like WOD or call of cthulu for a Supernatural type campaign with the deciding factor being whether you want the bigger risk to be death or insanity for the players.

Forgive me if this topic has been done already and feel free to send me off to pre-existing old threads.

What system(s) respectively would you choose to base a campaign using a similar model to the TV shows Supernatural and Heroes?

I'd use CoC (probably the d20 version) for Supernatural and MM 2e for Heroes with some house-ruled caps on powers (each hero on the series technically only has one power).

I understand that Mutants & Masterminds has a new setting coming out called "Paragons" where the players are the first people to have powers and become Heroes. So that might work.

Although my favorite super-hero RPG is the 1998 Marvel Super-Heroes Adventure Game using the SAGA system rules. It is fast and furious like a comic book, so I'd recommend that.

For Supernatural, I agree that Call of Chtulhu might be too lethal. So I second the above recommendation for the Alternity Science Fiction roleplaying game using the Dark Matter campaign setting. Just the right blend of PCs winning, but needing to be afraid, very afraid.
