Tweak a Freak (& Delurk Self)

I'm a new member, and this is my first post here; I've been lurking long enough...

I recently came back to roleplaying/D&D after a 15 year hiatus. I went from v1 to v3.5 and missed most of v2. I stumbled across EnWorld last year, and it motivated me to get out and find a actual, live game in RL - I'm very glad to be here. :D

In my new-found campaign, I carefully crafted a character for his roleplaying potential (he's the offspring of a half-orc and a half-elf, he's a mediocre Ranger/but a decent Fighter).

As his adventures commenced, it became evident that my DM is more power-combat oriented than I am. Now I've become rather worried for my poor mongrel's well-being. It's clear that my strategically weak feat plans will probably get me killed. :( Would anyone have some career planning advice to spare for dear old Wirt?

Level) Class level: [feat] (class ability)

1) Ranger 1: [Power Attack] [Cleave] (Track, Wild Empathy, Favored Enemy: Orcs)
2) Ranger 2: (Two Weapon Fighting)
3) Fighter 1: [Exotic Weapon Prof: Bastard Sword], [Oversized Two Weapon Fighting]
4) Ranger 3: (Endurance) +1 to Str

I'm now a Power Attacking TWF-er with two bastard swords, and I plan on following up with Weapon Focus: Bastard Sword. Level goals could include a healthy dose of Scout levels, or I might go into Dervish around level 10 or 11. I still want to get Quick Recon along the way somewhere, but I need the Dervish feats (Combat Expertise, Elusive Dance/Dodge, Mobility) soon if I'm going that path.
Build suggestions, advice, or maybe even a little constructive flaming would be most welcome!

Thank you for your time, and for making this ENWorld such a great resource!
