UA cover - did you notice?

I just bought the new UA and was looking at the cover art. It reminds me of the 1E UA's cover illo. with the light thrown up by the tome.

Did you notice the shadowy homonculous (?) in the top left corner of the 3.5 illo? I don't have my 1E UA to hand, but IIRC there's a similar critter on the cover of ye olde UA too.

Yes, the 1E UA had one as well... It was trapped in a glass bottle, IIRC.

Also, it looked like a player's book, but the colour was different. I wonder if that's the color for a new type of books or if they did that to visualize the uniqueness of the book

it looks to me like the combined the blue of the DMG and the brown of the PHB to signify the fact that this book is both...

I vaguely recall seeing a comment from someone at Wizards to the effect that the new cover art was deliberately designed to harken back to the 1E version, just as the title does, because it is the same type of book in spirit.
