A few months ago, I signed up to receive a CD copy of the ubuntu Linux distribution (http://www.ubuntulinux.org/) when the stable version was released.
Last night, I received a package in the mail (from Switzerland) that contained 10 sets of the distribution CDs! One of the CDs containes the regular distribution, and the other contains a bootable desktop installation, so you can use it without putting anything on your hard drive.
It also contains Windows versions of several pieces of open source software (Open Office, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird Email, Abiword, GIMP, PDFCreator, and Audacity).
What a nice surprise! I tried the bootable version last night, and was very impressed with it. I'm going to load the installable version on a PC at work today, and see what it can do.
If you are interested in a new Linux distribution, I'd recommend checking out the website (http://www.ubuntulinux.org/), downloading the distribution (http://www.ubuntulinux.org/download/), or ordering a set of the CDs for yourself (http://shipit.ubuntulinux.org/).
I'm impressed!
