Sorry mate, residents of USA and Canada only. :(

Thanks for letting me know Scott. Disappointing but I can understand it from a cost perspective. Maybe next time they will open it up to the rest of the world.

For those that took the Ultimate Gamer Test, what was it about? What questions did they ask?

I took one look, and realized that I didn't know the answers to ANY of the questions, and decided it wasn't worth the time to fill it out.

They were asking questions about items in the 1e AD&D DMG, cards from Magic: The Gathering expansions, and boardgame related questions.

I did notice that 6 of the 30 questions were about Magic: the Gathering. I guess if you don't play Magic, you're not a real gamer.

Or not one that Wizards is terribly interested in, I suppose.

I couldn't take the test because I'm in Australia, but given my gaming background, I guess I would have done ok.

D&D - check. Magic and other CCGs - check. Lots of boardgames - check. :)

Cheers!

I think they were looking for people that had played a wide variety of games, from D&D to M:tG to Board Games to Electronic Games.

From what I read on the Gleemax boards, the questions were randomly generated with only about 10% of the questions from M:tG. You obviously got more M:tG questions compared to what you would get on average (3 questions). Just the luck of the draw I guess.

For those that did participate, what sort of questions did they ask?

Yup. For me, add occasional video game player - check. I think I did fairly well, but not well enough to win. I had to outright guess on at least 6 questions and there were a few I wasn't 100% sure of.

You have 15 minutes to answer 30 multiple choice questions and they say "you can't cheat". I would have cheated if I thought it would have done any good, but considering the first question was about a PS2 game I never played, I knew I was done for from the get go.

That first question's topic also came up in a second question.

Similarly, the Titan board game came up either as a question or possible answer twice. Never played it.

I'm not sure how many questions were for computer games, card games, RPG's, and board games, and they even threw in a Pinochle question, which my dad couldn't answer because he hasn't played in so long.

I suspect the 'Ultimate Gamer' is the person who gets the correct set of random questions.

If the emphasis is finding someone who knows everything about every game, nobody is likely to match the bill. There is simply too much out there.

The only good thing about this is the presence of Monte, which is the less bad thing so far. he might put some sense in the rest of the crowd. If they let him speak, that is.
The whole idea of federating the gamers of all kinds does not have much appeal to me. I do not feel a convergence with console games, and only extremely slightly with CCGs.

In short, I do not see at all what we could gain from it.

And no, I have not forgotten the disappearance of Dragon and Dungeon, I am still not happy about that choice, and I am not likely to approve the DI anytime ever.

And ... the current graphics are still ugly.

Lucky you. I had 15 minutes to answer 30 questions...

Given what's been said here and above, without getting into specifics, it seems the questions others had and what I had were quite similar...they can't be *that* random. That said, there were a few games mentioned I'd never heard of (e.g. Titan) never mind played...

One of us needs to design the alternate UGT: the Ultimate Grognard Test. :)
