Ultimate Dragon Killer

I am interested in making a Dragon Slayer NPC in one of the games I DM. I allow all official sources as well as all the AEG stuff and all the S&S stuff.

My challenge to all of you is to come up with a slayer better than the one I have preplanned. I want to let you all know that while this should include some min/maxing - good feat choices, appropriate skills, appropriate prereq's for PrC's if that applies, it should not be munchkinism. A.K.A - no Monk1/Pal3/Fighter4/Duelist3/Bladesinger4/etc.

I am interested in a developed NPC that I can roleplay with as well as rollplay with (all too often my NPCs are good at only one of those things) whose focus is Dragon Slaying. This also means that even if the character is good at other things or can apply his powers to other things, he should truly excel at Dragon slaying.

Good Luck all ;) (I really do have a slayer already made up but I want to keep it as a surprise - I want to see the best that other's can come up with)

The aniversary issue had I believe 4 dragonslayer prestige classes. Those super specialized classes are best suited towards NPCs that don't have to do a variey of tasks.

Dragon Slayer

Ranger 7/Foe Hunter (the rest of his levels)

Favored Enemy Dragon: 2
Favored Enemy something else: 1
Feats: Track, Weapon Focus (something), any other feats you want.

Ranger/Foe Hunter seems to be the best way to create someone specialized in killing Dragons.

Alternatively, you could have a half-orc Tribal Protector whose tribal enemy is a Dragon.

Or you could have an uber Paladin or Templar who uses their Smites against Dragons.

Oh, yes. Clerics work well against anything.

Dragon Slayer

Probably the best Dragon Slayer

Paladin 2/Ranger 5/Foe Hunter (rest of levels)

Paladin 2 gives immunity to fear(important for a Dragon Slayer).

Ranger 5 gets +2 to damage and +2 to several skills against Dragon.

Foe Hunter gives the all important DR, SR, extra Damage, and chance to kill the Dragon with a death attack (at 10th level).

Favored Enemy Critical (MOTW) allows the Hunter to double his chances of a crit with any weapon against the Dragon.

Clever Wrestling (& pre-req Improved Unarmed Strike) may allow the Dragon Slayer to avoid being grappled. Close Quarters Fighting will be useful for the same reason.

Don't worry about feats like Power Attack, Cleave, or Great Cleave.

The Foehunter is definitely a Contender. However, with Dragon's high saves the Death Attack is meaningless as the DC probably won't exceed 30.

Looking for more responses.

Depends on the level... Sometimes the classic smackdowns work best.

12th level Human Paladin (Evil Dragon Hunter)

Feats: Spirited Charge (Mounted Combat, Ride-By Attack), Power Attack, Improved Critical (Lance), Power Critical

Using Blessed Weapon that once per day auto-Threat from Power Critical automatically succeeds against an evil target.

[d8 + <Str> + <weapon bonus> + 12 (smite) + 12 (power attack)] x5 will easily get you in the range of 170-190 points of damage without even needing to make an attack roll.

And I haven't even thrown in cheesy details like insanely pumped strength, or add in a level or two of fighter to squeeze in an extra feat or other fun and games.

The Dragon...

As for the Dragon Slayer I don't know, But I have a dragon, Red Great Wyrm, and I like to challenge (or be challenged by) my friends. Until now I have slayed 7 dragon slayers (lvl 20 with 700000 GP in equip. all at once, good and experienced players), and haven't been hurted too much.
Well, this weekend I'll face Iblis (the fallen Solar, CR 24 - I think it's on the Book of Fiends) Let´s see how my dragon behaves on this one. If he survives, we can try your dragon slayer. (what level is he?)
Too bad we probably don't live in the same city...

hugs,

Saladrex.

BTW - I was really hoping people would post specific characters. I already have mine made - I am not looking for suggestions - but rather a contest. Who is the best Dragon Hunter
