'Avengers' first for ani vid series

Lions Gate Family Home Entertainment will kick off its much-anticipated series of animated made-for-video movies starring Marvel comic-book characters with "The Avengers." The first installment in an eight- to 10-picture deal with Marvel Enterprises, the 66-minute film will feature a cadre of Marvel's most popular characters, including Captain America, the Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Giant Man and Wasp. The animated feature, based on the Marvel Comics series "The Ultimates," is still in the script phase. Glenn Ross, president of Lions Gate's family home entertainment division, said he expects the complete film to be out on DVD in early 2006.

Millar and Hitch are consultants, so I'd say this has some potential :)

 Huh.

Why the Ultimates instead of the Avengers? I'm not sure the Ultimate version is going to translate as well to an all-ages animated show. It's not like they're going to show the horny Hulk or the is-he-sane-or-not Thor. And "The Avengers" is a cooler name, too.

But at least, they're doing it right this time, having Cap, Thor, and Iron Man in it. Without them, the Avengers cartoon of a few years ago wasn't really the Avengers.

I'm hoping it will be a PG-13 affair (but I probably hope in vain...).

I could just see it now, some kid is watching it and then goes and asks his mother,
"Mommy, why is the Hulk chasing after Wasp, making kissy faces, after she dropped her top?"
Or the way to solve a fight with your spouse? RAID in the face! I see this as being a dumbed down, Ultimates movie. First Jack Black as the GL, now this. :: shakes his head:: My hopes for a decent Iron Man movie are falling further and further.......
