If you dip into any spellcasting class, consider the arcane spell Whirling Blade (Spell Compendium). It lets you throw an edged weapon so that it does an attack at every target in a 60' line, then returns directly to your hand. This could be a rude surprise.
There are lots of fun ways to build a PC who uses it, too- TWF types, Sword + Board & 2handers can all benefit from it.
One subtle one- equip your PC with a large shield with shield blades (not spikes). With this spell, he's kind of like Capt. America. A PC with a bladed gauntlet or something similar would gain a Wuxia feel.
Combine the 2 concepts with a razor-edged, broad-rimmed helm and this spell gives you...Master of the Flying Guillotine!
In a different direction, a PsyWar or a Cleric who eschews armor can still be quite a nasty foe if built right...especially since they can buff themselves quite effectively.
