W6S professional well trained fighter with light to medium armor.

glaives, ranseurs
Polearms used by miltitia, levy or or infantry

picks
Used by Armored knights and other heavy armored troops or the opposite, mostly nobility and knights

dire flail/other flails
Flail normal types, specialist fighters/Knights, or Peasant militia.
Dire flails
Fools, idiots

falchion
peasants sword maybe mercs, but mostly cheap weapon of low qualitie for the not so well to do

warhammer
Dwarves, or a tool real warhammer would be picks

spiked gauntlets Tridents
Gladiators, pit fighters

sickle &scythes or such Tridents
improvised weapons for the peasants or fishermen

One of my players has a Rapier/Handaxe combo. Since most axes (I know, I know, not all of them) are curved blades with something of a hook on the bottom, I let him have disarm attempts with it. It lets him have that in addition to a good parrying weapon. Couple with his good attacks per round, and he has made his way through quite a few fights with a style I've not seen since my early 2E days.
 

As far as i know the flail was invented to hit a shield bearer. The chain allows the head (spiked or not) to turn around the rim of the shield and break the shield-arm. no more shield use ...
So people who hate shields use flails :)
