This was created by one of my 'co-players' because he was really unhappy with the fact the the Defenders of the Faith Undead Hunter prestige class did not continue to gain levels of casting in his cleric class. My DM asked me to evaluate the prestige class my co-player came up with because he figures that I'm more familiar with the d20 system than anyone else in the group.

If this prestige class advances to 10 levels of 'anvol undead hunter', then you would be behind a cleric by three levels.

When compared to the sacred exorcists, this class strikes me as being close to balanced.

So, what you think, balanced?

Suggestions to make it balanced?
thanks,
Ysgarran.

Anvol is the god of death. His main concern is in the event itself and not the method by which the death is reached. He is in charge of souls from the time they die until they have been judged. There are other gods whose portfolios deal with process of dying and suffering. These gods are the evil gods.
The clerics see death as the ultimate contract. Anyone who tries to evade death is attempting to by-pass this ultimate contract. Intelligent undead are the ultimate anathema to the worshippers of Anvol. In particular, liches (whether they are good or evil) who have used their magical abilities to cheat death are at the top of the list. One of Anvol's charters in the Prime Mover pantheon is to track down those who attempt to evade or cheat death.
Since the church is involved in ensuring everyone eventually fulfills the ultimate contract the church has become involved in the side business of guaranteeing contracts of any kind. For example, the church is willing to become the backer of loans. If the loan is not paid back, the church will dispatch representatives to collect. If all else fails in the collection of the loan, the church will dispatch assassins to fulfill the last contract.
The following are the specialists who hunt the undead.
Requirements
To qualify to become an Anvil Hunter, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.
Alignment: LG,LN,LE,N; i.e. Any Cleric of Anvil.
Base Attack Bonus: +5.
Knowledge (Undead): 6 ranks.
Feats: Chosen Foe (Undead), Extra Turning
Special:
Scar of Unlife: The character must have lost one level or had an ability score point drained by an undead creature, or be sought by an undead power.
Hit Die: d8
Class Skills
Concentration, Heal, Knowledge (Religion), Knowledge (Undead), Profession, Search, Spellcraft, and Intimidate.

Skill Points at Each Level 2 + Int modifier.

Class Features
All of the following are class features of the Anvil Hunter prestige class.
Weapons and Armor Proficiency: All simple and martial weapons, with all types of armor, and with shields.

Spells per Day/Undead Turning: An Anvol Hunter continues advancing in spell casting ability, and undead turning ability, as well as gaining the abilities of her new class. Thus, when a new Anvol Hunter level is gained, the character gains new spells per day, and undead turning abilities as if she also gained a level as an Anvol cleric. Except at levels 3, 6 and 9.
Detect Undead (Sp): At will, the Anvil Hunter can detect undead as a spell-like ability. This ability duplicates the effect of the spell detect undead.
Prestige Domain: The character gains access to another of Anvil’s domains. She gains the granted power associated with the domain and can choose the spells in that domain as her daily domain spells.
Invisibility to Undead (Sp): At 3rd level, the Anvil Hunter can choose to be invisible to undead as a spell like ability 1/day. At 6th and 9th level the number of times per day increases. This ability duplicates the effects of the spell invisibility to undead.
Spurn Death’s Touch (Ex): A 4th level Hunter of Anvil applies her Wisdom modifier (if positive) as additional bonus on all saving throws against effects and spells used by undead. Will saves thus add double the normal Wisdom modifier.
True Death (Su): Undead slain by Anvil Hunters by melee attacks or spells, can never rise again as undead. They are forever destroyed.
Positive Energy Burst (Su): In lieu of two normal turning attempts, an Anvil Hunter of at least 8th level can create a positive energy burst that deals 1d6 points of damage to all undead creatures within 100 feet of the character for every class level of Anvil Hunter the character has attained. Undead are allowed a Reflex save (DC 10 + class level of the hunter) for half damage.
Sealed Life (Su): Upon reaching 10th level, an Anvil Hunter cannot lose levels due to energy draining effects (although death still results in level loss, as do other level- or experience-draining penalties).

Fort Saves: Good
Ref Saves: Poor
Will Saves: Good
BAB: Same as cleric (i.e. Average)

Well, i find it quite balanced but there's something i should criticize:
True Death (Su): Undead slain by Anvil Hunters by melee attacks or spells, can never rise again as undead. They are forever destroyed.
[/B]

I think that this power is too powerful: destroying in such a way a Lich or a Vampire could ruins loads of good campaigns made with a powerful undead villain. Finding all the coffins of a vampire, or destroyng a philacitery is the major difficult of destroyng such a creatures.

You can give to your Undead Hunter the ability to make critical hits, or whatever you want, but be vary careful to grant this power...

Thanks for pointing that one out. I agree with 100% that destroying the physical form of certain undead does not mean that you have actually slain the creature.

Adjust ability:
True Death (Su): Undead slain by Anvil Hunters by melee attacks or spells, can never rise again as undead. They are forever destroyed. In this context, destroying the physical form of a vampire or a lich does not mean you have 'slain' the creature. In other words, this ability only applies to creatures whose 'soul' is tied to its physical manisfestation. So forcing a vampire to gaseous form will not trigger this ability, neither will destroying a lich without finding its phylactery.

I will say something more on True Death ability now that you've edited it. It is now well balanced as a power for itself, but i think that is not a good power a PrC can gain at fifth level... perhaps it has to scale down and swap places...

One last thought. It is possible to give to a PrC a level without givin' it a power: it is not mandatory to do so. Give to a class ten "lesser" powers instead of five (as an average) "good" ones, is not always a good choice.

1st Detect Undead +1 level of existing class
2nd Prestige Domain +1 level of existing class
3rd Invisibility to Undead (1/ day)
4th Spurn Death's Touch +1 level of existing class
5th True Death +1 level of existing class
6th Invisibility to Undead (2/ day)
7th Prestige Domain +1 level of existing class
8th Positive Energy Burst +1 level of existing class
9th Invisibility to Undead (3/ day)
10th Sealed Life, Prestige Domain +1 level of existing class

What if you...

Delete invisibility to undead power completely (after all they can cast the spell instead of active it as a power, they just have to give up a couple of spell)
Give +1 spell castin' ability at 1st,3rd,4th,6th,7th,9th,10th.

Let me say what do u think
