Under Ocean Cities

I might start by looking at seastead designs and then add a bit of undersea topography like Japan's Atlantis . Of course, you might also look at current prototypes like the Poseidon Resort .

If you have Second Life, you can explore such a habitat at NEMO II

How about the submersible fortress in "The Spy Who Loved Me":

Have you thought about the new cities under the ocean? How would you describe it?

Which new cities?

I'm mainly looking for images of underwater cities that would have thousands of people in it, basically cities for an underwater nation, not just a few people. Basically where people are living if the surface becomes too dangerous.

Ever considered the underwater cities on Naboo?

Honestly, the best way to get the city you want is to build it yourself, by using a 3D app like Bryce 6 (a prior version is available for free at download.com), coupled with templates such as Terra-Tropolis.

Interesting point about the pressure dictating the design. I'm going to have to think about that for a bit. The pyramid design is based on gravity as the primary pressure. The pressure in this case would be from all sides. Spherical would be a good one. hmm.

Upcoming outburst of potential semi-useful information:

Also a D20 shaped or honeycomb patterned walls would work well, there's a company near me that I went to that as part of an engineering class that makes blocks of stuff that has hexes that go through a block of foam or aluminum, making it extremely resilient to pressure from that area, it is mainly used in cars, airplanes and boats but still very light and there are versions of it that are very water-resistant and won't wear down like steel will as described in the second paragraph in this article. their website is here if you want to look at some examples. For example aluminum, stainless steel, etc. maybe technological advances that would occur in that time would allow a larger grid that could be used for windows. Of course if you want to just have normal walls and windows, that works too, maybe the walls have the honeycomb inside of them or something like that.

I'm just spouting out ideas of how to make it work possibly IRL if you were to try it, you can do what you want in your game, as it does not have to adhere to reality, but these, I suspect would appear somewhere.

Think Dwarven strongholds. The majority of such cities would be deeply excavated into the surrounding surface from an initial mining structure to minimize the problems of pressure, space, growth limitations, etc. Small observation domes/windows dotting the landscape around a submarine marina would likely be the only indication the city exists.

Those needing to free-float or otherwise be mobile would follow cruise-ship and space-station designs, using either motors or mooring cables to provide stability when needed. Examples would include farming outposts residing near free-floating kelp beds and research teams traveling alongside migrating species.
