How good is the Underdark FR book.

Also which Drow book best fits with the D&D vision of Drow and without going into too much off base stuff. I also prefer balance. I don't need background information on gods, but a few cities and such would be good.

I think the new FR Underdark book is great, but you might not like it. It's not a 3rd party Drow book at all. Think Players Guide to the Realms but below ground. Some cool Underdark races, Prestige Classes, Spells, some underdark hazards, etc.
It didnt do the job as well as Frostburn did for Arctic adventuring IMO, but I liked it.

The WOTC Underdark book is blummin' great! I've bought all the 3rd ed FR books so far and its definately in the top 3 IMO.

I don't play in the realms so couldn't give you "in campaign" useage that I've had from the book, unfortunately we only have time for a sporadic Ravenloft game these days.

If you want Underdark in 3rd Ed its a good start!

Well, I think Green Ronin's Plot and Poison combined with Dezzavold: Fortress of the Drow could suit your needs for a third party book. The books are meant to go together Dezzavold refers to P&P in several places. However, Plot and Poison is a 3.0 work.

While I am not familiar with the 3rd party Drow books, Underdark has a lot to recommend to it. Although there is FR specific content, it is fairly easy to adapt material from the book to other campaign settings.

As mentioned, Green Ronin has Plot and Poison and Dezzavold.

Goodman Games has the Complete Guide to Drow.

Mongoose has Drow Magic and the Quintessential Drow.

There might have been a Slayer's Guide, too.

Happy hunting.
Mongoose had Sheloth: City of the Drow, which went with the Quintessential Drow.

Goodman Games also has a book caloled Underdark. It is a little more generic but highly creative ideas for an Underdark in any setting.

The FR Underdark book is excellent. It's given me a ton of ideas, it covers the subject well, and it's one of my favorite 3.x FR books overall.

I'm not enough of a drow fiend to have picked up a book dedicated solely to them (apart from the 2e DotU, which I've got), so I'm no help on part two. ;)

I sold Underdark not long after buying it. I don't run FR but I was hoping that it would be generic enough to be worth the cash. I didn't think it did, FR wise or generic.
