gem dragons are cool too.
duergar, drow, cloakers, dark stalkers/creepers, osquips, purple worms, umber hulks, piercers, kuo-toa....
there are many, many ideas for underdark critters.
don't forget the effects the underdark has on magic... teleport and dim door come to mind.
