Underdark Hex Crawl Generator

In the OD&D Dungeon Master's Guide, there is a way to generate random hexes in order to create a regional map. I have owned that book since 1982 or something, and I never sat down and used those tables until a few weeks ago. It is a blast! Total creativity pump. Now I am wondering if anyone has seen a similar generator for the underdark?

I wonder if that kind of activity is a (now largely) untapped source of creative juices... "Total creativity pump" sounds golden. I know I've seen stuff like that in the past, but yeah thinking about it, creating the regions via such a method sounds quite nice.

Once I sat down and actually did it, I was astonished at what came into my imagination just based on random rolls. Like a mini-campaign came to life. It was really fun, and made me realize how infrequently I actually sit down and let my imagination flow.

Now I want to do something similar for the Underdark. I am tempted to just do it (create a generator) myself!

The Undermountian books from 2E had this sort of thing as Ed does like "crazy random dungeons". And it has a lot of his old Dragon Magazine articles put into it. Like his long ago article "dungeon doors of the Realms".

The Ruins of Myth Drannor has some too.

AD&D 1E? Appendix B?

That’s the feeling I get just about any time I sit down with robust random tables for creating things. They have a way of sparking creativity that just sings. How do these pieces fit together? How to make this seemingly incongruent result work? Why would that be so and how? What would happen if these two factions are so near each other? Etc. It’s so much fun every time I do it.

I have nothing to offer specific to the Underdark. But if you search my posts for the word “Azgaar” you will find a lot of resource for random generation.

I'd imagine this or similar might be used for solo play rule sets.
