Underground/Underdark Mounts

Im looking for any type of underground mounts for medium creatures, specially the more unsual ones. Drows ride around in spiders and riding lizards and in Icewind Dale Trilogy Dwarfs use Boars. Well, Im looking for more types of mounts and interesting types top give a new flavour in the campaign.

My character is a wizard so its not really for me, but I might be tempted in getting a cool mount in which I could cast spells on top of.

Thanks in advance,

Hmm. Out of the gazillion monster manuals out there i'm sure we can find a few for you. Unfortunately I don't have any handy. I made a dwarf that rode a monitor lizard once. If your DM allows it, you might even consider unconventional mounts, like cloakers, deep bats, or a rust monster (although that's probably a very bad idea).

There's all kinds of spider-things you could use, like the drow do, or even use the grafting rules and add legs to something more mundane, like a dire mole.

If you're looking for an unusual underground mount then look no further than the Arms & Equipment Guide IIRC. The hands down weirdest mount ever; the gelatinous cube. There are rules for riding inside one safely and steering it around magically I believe.

But maybe that's not quite what you're looking for. :p

Yeah, you got it, that's weird. Heck, that opens up all kinds of options! How bout a fiendish snail? Or a tribe of myconids lashed together?

Races of Stone has some options listed. But I can't remember what they are.

I know my elven druid, who has been underground for sometime, needs a new animal companion. And a dire bat (not strictly an underground creature) has been approved by the DM as an option. The flying mobility should be beneficial.
