Underwater Gnomes Killing Divers

This is the craziest thing I've read in a while. I started to say "ever", but let's face it, there is some weird stuff online.

You've got to wonder though, if a thousand years from now, one of these lakes gets drained, and archaeologist puzzle over why there are gnomes at the bottom of the lake.

This doesn't surprise me at all. The diving community (of which I am a member) is a bit...eccentric.

I can distinctly recall diving on a wreck off the coast of North Carolina when the visibility was really bad (5-6 feet at most). I'm working may way along an old anchor chain toward the bow of the wreck when suddenly this large white shape seems to loom out of the murk. My whole insides clench up for a moment until I realized that the WHITE THING doesn't seem to be moving. I inch closer in anticipation...and find a regular, full sized toilet sitting pretty as can be on the bow of the wreck.

There is no doubt in my mind that many a diver has had his picture taken while "taking care of business" on that wreck.

That said, 48m is hella deep for sport diving. Nobody without a LOT of experience needs to be diving at that depth and it being in a cold lake only makes things worse. I'm guessing that it is some kind of status symbol among the English lake divers to go down to Gnomeville and take a picture with the little buggers. People need to exercise a little bit more common sense about these things. So listen up:

Having your picture taken with underwater Gnomes is nothing you want to DIE for!
