Unusual setting you'd love to see?

De-ignorance me... what is that story about? I've read other books by him (Uplift books, Earth) but not that one.

The world premise is machines automagically get better at performing their tasks the more they're used.

An axe will start as a piece of crude flint on the end of a pole and after much use will become a pure crystal axe head that is sized and bevelled perfectly to cut wood and the pole will smoothen, and get perfectly sized for the hands that wield it.

Dragging a travois over the same dirt area, the user will eventually have a metal track with a thin film of frictionless liquid between his start and destination points and the travois will strengthen, the tip will become metal, and it will fit the track perfectly.

I'd like to see WotC make an actual, no-joke steampunk setting. Guns and all.

It's different, it's popular, and it's ripe and ready with ideas.

Someone earlier mentioned Red Steel, and I loved the guns and renaissance feel to that setting.

Although my favourite steampunk setting would probably have to be based on the world of Girl Genius, and thus would be full of jokes :)

Darn it Planesailing, though I am not a fan of 4E, the idea of doing EPT in another system is incredibly tempting. Especially since it is such a rich role-playing environment, the simplicity of the 4e rules would not get in the way of the learning of what is Lan and Bussan and the 32 forms of you. However, each priesthood is unique with its own powers.

The traditional roles were Warrior, Cleric, and Wizard which are easy enough. The Adventurer was added in Dragon. You have the three noble professions of Military, Religious, Bureaucrat (Clan or Public). Shamans were added later and you have Barbarians in addition.

Such as the case, you might add Skyrealms of Jorune since it has similar issues, though the culture is not nearly as complicated.

Another vote for Red Steel.

- Renaissance
- Swashbuckling action
- Age of Exploration in a PoL setting
- Savage lands and ancient ruins and lost civilizations
- Red Curse powers
- Pistols and long barrel guns
- Secret societies controlling the precious remedy to the curse
- Racially integrated, meaning civilized races have national cultures

It would need some reduction of the "furry" elements, but would bring a need to bring 4e conversion of some classic races like the lupin, rakasta, tortle, aranea, phanaton, and manscorpion.

- Dragonborn could fit in the lizardman lands, maybe as gurrash.
- Elves and eladrin would be everywhere elves in the original setting were, especially the druid-nation of Robrenn
- Tieflings . . . more difficult if trying to be true to the original setting though maybe they could be the offspring of two Afflicted humans. As could changelings or shifters.
- Goliaths would have been found in the Black Mountains or the Arm of the Immortals.
- Warforged could be clockwork creations

Red Steel is perfect for the disposable setting method WotC has been going through, 3 book and out. Red Steel had a metaplot with the Red Curse whereby discovering the cause of the Curse and fixing it can be the end of the campaign right in time for the next published campaign setting to come along.

Okay, yeah, its clear l think this could work well. And it's different enough from standard fantasy, yet isn't so different as Dark Sun was.

Any oddball race, like tieflings, shifters or changelings could we attributed to the Red Curse, good call!

The different nations could be better mingled, to avoid the "cat feudal Japan" sitting next door to the "dog Renaissance France".

My favorite part (aside from the rakasta ;) ) are the Savage Baronies. Cimarron County, El Grande Carrascal (gnolls as noble savages!), the Portuguese/Spanish bits. All good stuff.
