Updated: Better Armor Ideas

bah!

okay this should be the updated table ...

oh and bump (hmm I should try to stop being the most popular poster to my threads :))

[edit: sorry bout the spelling and grammar! buckler4 should be "buckler-4" ... High Plate: should "soley made out of..." ... Dr and armor dmg: should be "until it is repaired" not 'until before repaired"]

I don't see why everyone sees the need to make heavier armors more attractive. Heavy armor is for the redshirts, not the heroes.

When was the last time you saw the hero wearing heavy armor in a fantasy movie? He usually gets a chain shirt, a helmet, maybe some gauntlets.

King Arthur had REALLY shiny armor.

We played that, "damaged armor" no longer can absorb the hit points (no DR) and it takes a -1 penalty to the AC bonus.

THis makes heavy armor better and worse. I always thought it was pretty balanced.

(add in RingMail +3 AC, +3 MaxDex, -3 ACP, 10% ASF, 20lbs, 50gp ... why is it good? because of the ASF, and a mithril suit has 0% ASF)

Isnt that the ashi-whatsis armor from OA?

Its more Light Breastplate than Ringmail but same general idea.

that's +3 AC, +5 mx dx, and 15% ASF ... besides I created my ringmail before I got OA ... so if push comes to shove out goes Ashigaru armor :)

I reason ringmail from a reverse engineering point of view (sort of) ... the first suit (in my little world) was actually made out of mithral and designed not to have an ASF. Some may point out the price difference between enchanted mithral ring and bracers, but I still think bracers are a better deal ... especially if your arcane user has a real wimpy str or is fighting a rust monster ... (... it balances out in the long run)

okay ... time to go, I can't even review the download here (crappy university comps!)

Chart looks pretty good dude.

I made a couple of changes to High/Melnibonean/Solamnic Plate.

I effectively removed the set price. These sets of armor are effectively priceless. And if you are trying to commission a set of this quality then the price will be negotiated on a case by case basis.

I also gave it DR 3 :D

I dont like using armor damage rules generally. Whenever I feel a character's armor should have sustained enough damage to warrant a loss in effectiveness I deal with it on the fly usually.

that works! ... I don't think that I'd ever sell it either ... price is just kind of there for comparison. (like clan tech in battletech).
