upgrading advice

I currently have a amd 450 proc, and am looking to upgrade to around a 1.7-2.0. I am tryign to do it as cheap as possible though. I have heard that shuttle makes a motherboard which can use both pc-133 sdram, and DDR pc 2100/1600 RAM. Unfortunatley I an not too up on ram these days. I have found a good case, and will probably go with a socket A mother board and use an AMD chip (probably XP but there maybe duron). Anyone have any suggestions or advice. I am really trying to save the $100 or so for new DDR ram, so if anyone know any other board manufacterers whoes motherboards will use both DDR and older pc-100/133/166 I would be most thankful :)

If you can get one that does both DDR and PC133 you can do that to save money. However, PC133 is out the door. It's only here so Dell, Gateway, etc. can make REALLY cheap computers. If you want to push that 1.7 you need the additional mppfff of DDR. Also, check out hotdealsclub.com they had some good deals on lower end Dells.

Sure.

Athlon XP1700+ rev B
EPoX 8RDA+
Generic PC3200 RAM.

Not too expansive, and you can overclock it fairly easy too. Personally I've been fond of P4 setups lately but the above setup will be a bit cheaper than if you build the P4.
