Urban Legends, mystic adventure hooks

I'd need sources for adventure hooks like the Jersey Devil, Mothman, Philadelphia experiment, Conspiracy theories. Anyone know good links or have good ideas?

I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but there is a bit of info on several of them in the Wiki. Have you checked it, or is the data there insufficient for your purposes?

Currently, Sci-Fi network has a show called Sci-Fi Investigates that is investigating a lot of these. Perhaps their website has info for you?

Mothman in particular I think is the inspiration for the 2 Jeepers Creepers movies.

There was a Jersey Devil episode of X-Files.

And there are countless books on Lake monsters (Nessie, Chessie, etc.), furry humanoids (wendigo, sasquatch, bigfoot, etc.), Philly experiment, Roswell, and so forth. Perhaps a book on Cryptozoology would help you out.

I have checked wikipedia. Its a good source if you know what you are looking for. But I'm looking for an a more comprehensive list on 'modern monsters'. What I posted earlier was only a small list of creatures that are there. I'm looking for those creatures that are not on my list.

If you want monsters...look to the D20 Monster books...D20 Modern Menace Manual, Monsters Manuals, etc. A lot of them have a real world myth or legend behind them in some form or fashion. There was a Hunter The Reckoning Supplement that dealt with Urban Legends, but it is out of print these days.

There have been quite a few TV series that have dealt with Urban Legends, conspiracy theories, and mythology. Supernatural, Millennium, Kolchak the Night Stalker to name a few. Also if your creativity runs out, hit the local video store and check the horror and scifi sections...there is a boat load of stuff there.

Your local library will probably have urban legend books, or if your a bit of a researcher...look through old issues of your local newspaper (usually on microfiche) and may find odd stuff there. Same goes for your town...historical archives are a great source of stuff. (Granted not every town has a haunted asylum but it might have a crybaby bridge).

A few links for you:

Ah...so you're looking for a list of various Urban Legend type monsters...

Off the top of my head, I can add the Chupacabra, Thunderbirds & Mokembe Mbembe.

Check out the list of critters from the 2 incarnations of Kolchack, the Night Stalker, X-Files, Supernatural, and any other modern fantasy/horror tv show and you'll find a gold-mine.

Also, any site or source that talks about Cryptozoology will serve you well.

I've been using the Wikipedia page for the more obscure creatures in our miniature line. Never got around to writing rules for most of them. Well, I got something for the Feejee Mermaid and the Hoop Snake. Others are on the agenda. Anyway, this was a good reference:

These have also been useful:

Got a few things out of here:

Here's one I haven't really used yet, but there are some real interesting creatures in here:
